please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
I have been asked to present facts about the Costa Rica issue.
The fall down of the previous leader left deep scars in the consciousness of the devotees who until now live in the farm. They are basically four families and two singles. They were cheated in the
most difficult and intimate thing to grant, which is faith. They were all very bitter and disenchanted. They had and still have all my sympathy.
This situation lead to a serious bent in their spiritual life. Their sadhana was very low, if any, not participating in any spiritual programs (mangala aratrika, Srimad-Bhagavatam classes, etc), not doing
any service to the Deities etcetera. It is still very uncommon to see dhotis, shikhas and saris around there, what to speak to see them at spiritual programs.
Some have shifted their faith to other spiritual movements, some were just extremely critical and even heavily offending. Their idea was and still is that the farm belongs to them, using the excuse that “they have been Nitai Gaurasundara’s servants for so many years”. But servants
serve. What type of servant is someone who doesn’t give service?
In the present situation is impossible for our Movement to use that facility for preaching, since guests and many outside devotees were continuously disturbed by the residents with criticisms and offenses against our Movement and its leaders. Many devotees not living in the farm were not even visiting the place anymore to avoid having to hear all that garbage. Guests were diverted to the center of other spiritual institutions. Some took reinitiation even if their “Iskcon Gurus” were in good spiritual
In my humble opinion there various situations to address with seriousness and sense of responsibility: On one part there is Iskcon’s duty to utilize that facility to preach Krishna consciousness according to Srila Prabhupada’s instructions. In fact there are millions of people there who are waiting that our movement gets together to embrace pure Bhakti.
In this situation, the only thing to do was to separate those who are faithful and up to the standard Iskcon devotees from those who are not.
So they offered the families who are still living in the farm some FREE LAND, donated, to build up their houses and have – if they so wished – their own small community. To those who had no economical means we even offered to help them with a loan to be repaid in 10 or 15 years. As far as the rest of the land is concerned, the plan is either to sell it all or to sell only a part.
In the first case, with that money we can buy a building in central San Jose, with attached restaurant, boutique, etcetera, and a more decentralized agricultural land, cheaper, with better climate and better located.
In the second case, we can sell only 6 or 7 hectares (out of 23). With that money we can buy something in the city and use the rest to build our new community: a nice temple for Sri Sri Nitai Gaurasundara, new houses to give to the devotees and more facilities.
At the beginning (in two occasions) the “farm devotees” understood how good the plan was and accepted it. You can see their undersigned document clicking below:
After some time they rejected it. The reason was that they don’t want to interact with or accept Iskcon leaders, that the farm belongs to them and they want to do with it whatever they want.
The plans they presented in the course of years were dreamworks and therefore unacceptable.
It is the duty of a leader to protect and defend Krishna’s property and use it for preaching, and this is what is going on.
There is some false propaganda by a crazy man who is plainly accusing the GBCs to wanting to sell the land to steal the money. Besides the fact that nobody has this intention, it is technically impossible this could occur. There are six more than trusted devotees who have to sign to do
anything with that property and if only one doesn’t agree everything is stopped. As far as administrating the money, the same six are involved, and there is no way to cheat or steal. We are strictly following Srila Prabhupada’s instructions regarding properties with the Trustee system. Actually our system is even stricter as more than three people are involved. No one cent will go
out Costa Rica and no one cent will be stolen or misused by anyone.
ABOUT THE MOVING OF THE DEITIES
Sri Sri Nitai Gaurasundara have been asked to accept moving because we received several serious threats from the farm people to abduct Them, namely to steal Them. As a consequence, the GBCs have decided to secure Them. Also the same people now lamenting are the same who have been asked for years to do some service receiving only one “no” after the other. The real servants of Sri Sri Nitai Gaurasundara are still faithfully and nicely taking care of Them.
There is more to say, but for the time being I’ll stop here.
These are only my personal opinions. I am not an authority in Costa Rica.
